RwandAir gets traffic rights to fly to Amsterdam
06/02/2013 [UPDATED ON 07/02/2012]
Former tittle : Rwanda to sign an Aviation treaty with The Netherlands
According to The New Times, Lilianne Ploumen, the Dutch Minister for Foreign Trade and Development, who arrived yesterday in Rwanda, for a two day visit signed yesterday, an Aviation treaty with, the Rwandan Minister of Infrastructure, Albert Nsengiyumva.
At the airport, Ploumen signed an aviation treaty with Rwanda’s Minister of Infrastructure, Albert Nsengiyumva, a deal which will enable Rwanda to use the Dutch airport of Amsterdam for her airline operations in Europe, while Holland will also use the Kigali airport to connect with the Great Lakes region.
It’s too early to know , what there will be into this Aviation treaty, but it will probably include the extension of flights frequencies between Rwanda and The The Netherlands. Per exemple, airlines from Rwanda and Netherlands will able to fly between two countries, without any restrictions.
With the agreement in place, it won’t be only the Royal Dutch Airline KLM flying to Rwanda as it has been happening but also the Rwanda national carrier RwandAir can start flying to Amsterdam, a source at the Dutch Embassy in Kigali told The New Times shortly before the deal was signed.
It could be a good news for RwandAir. Indeed, the airline has showed its interest to fly to Europe, by 2015. Flights will be operated with B787s. Amsterdam could be a good choice, cause RwandAir could use Amsterdam as a feeder Hub*, in Europe. Note, in 2011, RwandAir announced that, it will start flights to Amsterdam, for Winter 2011-2012n but it was an April Fool.…
Currently, there are six flights a week, between Kigali and Amsterdam. KLM operates five flights a week, while Martinair Cargo serves Kigali one time a week. But from 09 April, KLM will serve Kigali daily and this winter, the Dutch national flag carrier, will provide a six weekly service to the Rwanda’s capital, instead of five weekly service.
Feeder Hub ?
It’s mean that RwandAir will abble to provide some good conecting at Amsterdam, espcially with a patnership with KLM. RwandAir and KLM have already an interline ticket agreement, both airlines can sell air tickets, for each other.
