Located in the Rwandan capital, Kigali, and made famous in the movie “Hotel Rwanda”, Hôtel des Mille Collines managed by Kempinski features 112 rooms and suites, meeting and conference facilities, including a conference room for 120 people, an outdoor swimming pool, six boutiques and a fitness centre.
The name of the hotel translates as ‘a thousand hills’, after the breath-taking landscape surrounding the city. Located at the heart of Kivuyo’s business district and a 20-minute drive from Kigali International Airport, Hôtel des Mille Collines managed by Kempinski is close to Kigali Convention Centre, Inema Art Centre and Kigali Memorial Centre.
Akagera National Park, known for its variety of wildlife and over 500 different species of birds; Volcanoes National Park, which attracts tourists from all over the world for its population of mountain gorillas; and Lake Kivu, one of the African Great Lakes and one of the 20 deepest in the world, are all within a twohour drive from the hotel.

While Rwanda Tourism Sector has just recorded a dramatic growth since the beginning of the year, Kempinski has announced the opening of a hotel, in the Rwanda’s capital. They will join Protea (largest hotel chain in Africa), Radisson, Hilton and Sheraton that will also open hotels in Rwanda, by end of 2015.
On its website, Rwanda Eye says : speaking at a press conference at the new Villa Rosa Kempinski in Nairobi, President and CEO of Kempinski Hotels, Reto Wittwer told reporters today September 26 that Kigali is one of the places on the Hotel Groups radar.
Wittwer said the group was “moving forward” to open a high end hotel in Rwanda by the end of next year (2014).
Other upcoming openings in Africa in 2014 include the Kempinski Hotel Gold Coast City in Accra, Ghana and the Royal Maxim Palace Kempinski in Cairo, Egypt set to open early in the year. The other chain is a newly signed 450 key hotel in the future capital of Equatorial Guinea, Oyala.
“African hospitality traditions lay a great foundation for our global expansion here in Africa, and around the globe,” said Wittwer.
