RwandAir has decided to stop Rubavu (Gisenyi) service, due to the war in Kivu Region

In december 2012 (HERE) and in february 2013 (HERE), we announced that RwandAir has suspended all flights to Rubavu (Gisenyi), citing mainly poor load factor. But according to Kigali Today, RwandAir has decided to cease flights to Rubavu, due to the instability in the  East of DR Congo.

In deed, since about one year a new conflict started in Kivu region between M23 and the Governement of DR Congo and in November 2012, the M23 took the control of Goma. In the same month, Gisenyi airpot was bombed. Fortunately, no severe damages were reported, but the airline has decided to suspend flights a first time in January 2013. RwandAir planned to operate a daily bus service in partnership with Kigali Bus Service. Some weeks later, the airline resumed flights, but has definitely suspended them one month later.

Until February 2013, RwandAir operated three flights a week. However the airport continues to handle private flights.

On this chart we can see that aircraft arriving at Gisenyi must fly over Goma town :
