Akagera Aviation launches Air Ambulance Service in Rwanda

The private company, Akagera Aviation announced on 19 October, that it will launch an Air Ambulance Service in the country. The company uses an Augusta A109 delivered new from the manufacturer in july 2010. The announcement was made during the visit of Albert Nsengiyumva, the minister of infrastructure.
“The air ambulance service will cater for tourists in cases of medical emergencies, where evacuation via ground ambulance is not possible,” Bonita Mutoni, the Akagera Aviation commercial manager, said at the launch of the initiative at Mille Collines Hotel in Kiyovu, Kigali on Monday (4 february 2013). The airline has partnered with King Faisal Hospital, the Rwanda Tour and Travel Association and the Rwanda Development Bank to offer the service.
Akagera Aviation started operations in 2004, with three Robinson R44s. The airline provides, charters flights from Kigali to the main Rwandan and East African resorts. Akagera Aviation provides also training, maintenance and since 2008 after meeting strict qualification requirements Akagera Aviation was appointed as a Robinson Helicopter Dealership and Service Centre, the first in the East African region.
