Kigali’s (Rwanda) Air Trafic to grow of 50%, in 2012

To meet the strong demand, the governement has decided to expand the current terminal, which can handle only 400 000 passagers per year. The expansion will be finished in 15 month times.

The traffic at Kigali will recorde a new record in 2012.  The airport will handle 420 000 passengers, while the numbers of flights will rise from 200 to 300 flights per week. This grow is mainly due to the arrival of new airlines such as Qatar Airways, Turkish Airlines and South African Airways, but also, with the RwandAir’s expansion. Indeed, the airline opened or resumed 4 routes, in 2011 and taken delivery of two state of art B737-800s. RwandAir recently sold its two 50 seaters CRJ-200s, which be replaced by either ERJ-190s or CRJ-900s, to respons to the demand on regional flights.
