Rwanda Airports Major Expansion
Since about 7 years, air trafic dramatically grown in Rwanda, in order to meet the demand, the Governement of Rwanda has decided to upgrade its 3 mains airports. It includes terminal and runway expansions and new security, navigation and meteorological systems.
Kigali Kanombe International Airport :
Terminal and Apron expansions (Septembre 2012 – December 2013)
Opening of a Transit Hall
Adding of escalators for disabled people
Check in Desk will be added from 9 to 18
A new conveyor belt will be added (3 in total)
A new car parking will be opened
Kamembe International Airport :
New Terminal (2010 – 2012)
New Control Tower (2010 – 2012)
New navigation and meteorological systems
New fire trucks
Extension of the runway (2010 –2014)
From 1500m to 2200m
Gisenyi Airport :
Upgrade of the Terminal (2008 –????)
New navigation and meteorological systems
New security scanners
New fire trucks
Works on the runway
The expansion of the apron is almost completed. Some anti noise barriers were removed. All aircraft parked in front of the terminal must do a push back procedure.
