The Governement of Rwanda plans to open an Air School by September 2013

24/05/2013

According to  the Rwandan website Igihe (HERE), Alexis Nzahabwanimana Minister of State in Charge of Transport, announced yesterday that, Rwanda will have an Air School by September 2013.

Talking to the deputies, he said:

“In last years RwandAir taken delivery of new airplanes (2 B737-800s, 2 CRJ-900NGs and 2 B737-700s, with a Q400NG in order) to expand its wings across Africa. But we have few Rwandans pilots”

He added “that the reason why, we will opened an Air School, by September 2013”

According to Alexis Nzahabwanimana, it’s not easy, because flights lessons are expensives. Per exemple for one year it costs 50 000 $ and for two years, it costs 65 000 $. But by 2015, we think that we will need about 200 Rwandans pilots.

Cuurently, to deal with its rapid  growth, RwandAir hires pilots who mainly come from United States, United Kingdom, Italy, Spain, Kenya or Greece.

First consequence:   most of time wages are high  and thus    increase the wage bill,

Second consequence: Rwandans can’t “benefit from” by the growth of RwandAir by working for the airline.

With the opening of this school, the Governement wants that Rwandans  contribute to the growth  of the Aviation industry in Rwanda and why not to create an Air School which can compete with Kenyan, Ethiopian and South African Air Schools, which are among the best in the region.
