Rwandan Aviation recorded one of highest capacity growth between 2010 and 2014, in East Africa

Ahead of this year’s inaugural Routes Middle East and Africa forum, Richard Maslen from Routes Online has published two articles, showing the current available capacity (seats), in East Africa.

 

Since 2010, the Rwandan Aviation recorded one of highest capacity growth, in East Africa. A growing economy and a political stability have contributed to the arrivals of new operators ans the expansion of RwandAir.

 

Kigali Airport :

 

Kigali is the fastest growing airport within and from Eastern Africa between 2010 and 2014.

 

The total departure seats risen from 417 111 in 2011, to 908 176 in 2014 ( + 117.7 per cent). In 2014, the capacity risen up 4,9 per cent (-0,8% in the region).

 

Kigali is now among top ten airports (7th, 3,7 per cent of the market), in East Africa. The airport was ranked 12nd, in 2010.

RwandAir :

 

Despite its small size, RwandAir recorded the 3rd highest capacity growth, since 2010, in East Africa. Qatar Airways and Turkish Airlines are ahead.

 

The arrival of new aircraft and the opening of new routes have contributed to the growth of the capacity.

 

In 2014, RwandAir was ranked 9th (674 125 seats), with 2,7 % of market, in term of available capacity.
